One of the key challenges faced in today’s plant protection is the resistance of pests, weeds and disease agents to active substances contained in plant protection products.

In plant protection, resistance is seen as the natural hereditary adaptation of individuals of given pest populations that allows them to survive the plant protection treatments that previously effectively controlled such populations.

Such resistance is fostered by:

  1. Selective pressure and multiple years of use of plant protection products that rely on the same acting principle,
  2. Climate change (including global warming, which produces favorable conditions for the development of many pest species, for instance by allowing the growth of more pest generations per season),
  3. Agronomic factors that help increase pest population densities such as the lack of proper crop rotation, large cultivation areas, and simplified soil cultivation systems.
